De Bono Thinking Hats

Hello blogging world. This week we were asked to create a Debono thinking Hats about the gala day to see this look at my previous post. We had to make a white hat, a yellow hat, a red hat, a black hat, a green hat and a blue hat. I think it was harder for some than it was for others because some people didn't come to the gala day. This is what I made.

Inquiry- Bags

This last couple of weeks we've been working on making tote bags to sell at the gala day, on the 25th of november, 10:00-3:00. To make them it is a slightly complicated process, depending on your level of expertise. Here is steps on how to  make it.
  1. draw down the design you are going to screen print onto a book.
  2. Next, draw down your design on a piece of paper, leaving the outside untouched.
  3. now, screen print. Put down newspaper, your cloth, and the outside of your design, that should look like this,
and a screen. put the ink on top of the screen press down and pull towards you hard. You have screen printed! Once you've let it dry for a couple of hours,  put the two sides of your bag together,  with the bits you want to be the outside on the inside. Pin the outside of the bag with ordinary sewing pins.  Then use a sewing machine to to sew three sides of it with a straight stitch, being careful not to go too close to the edge or it will rip when you turn it inside out. Next do it again but with a cross stitch but closer to the edge. now fold over the top and sew it twice, then fold it and sew it again. Next do the handle, a bit of 70 cm long strapping. To put it on, turn your bag inside out and sew in a square. do this to all your strapping and then iron repetitively and you are done!!!

Cybersmart

This week in cybersmart we worked on collaboration. We opened a chart and on it we said our highlight of the year and a photo of ourselves. This very frustrating, as the entire class was working on the same document and people kept trolling. but that was just a trick. Our cybersmart teacher was just trying to teach us collaboration. After this we watched a video about collaboration and then worked on a sheet about collaboration. This is it.
I think that the best part was how easy it was and how quickly I could do it.

Poems

Hello blogging world, Saskia here. This week we made some poems. We were not allowed to repeat the same word twice unless it was something simple like "I" or "and". It was especially hard because I couldn't think at first and we had write at least six lines. This is mine.

I sat out there in the wet,
and wished I'd never got on that jet.

Indeed that jet looked cold and cruel,
I felt like throwing up last night's gruel

I swam far away in the tide,
until a shark nearly bit off my hide.

Now I'm happy I'm alive
but I'll never go back to that place where the shark resides.

CAMP!!!

Last week we went to camp. It was amazing and fun. after the trip I am happy! I didn’t think it would be this fun until I went. Every day I was happier then the last, I loved the night walk, I didn’t think stars could be so bright! I especially loved being on the top of the mountain, and climbing on the top of a roof (where I shouldn’t have been, but it was great for sight seeing) On the way to Mt Ruapehu we had stops, they were Taumaranui, Otorohanga and Hamilton Gardens. On the way back we went to Taupo Aquatic Centre, Huka Falls and Cambridge. Also we skied. Here are some photos for all of them

My favourite part of it was skiing. The best part of skiing was when I was one of twelve allowed to go up to Rock Garden and bet my mum in a race because she crashed at the last second and let me through. What challenged me was moving up to Rock Garden with all the cliffs and heavy slopes

tinkercad new play ground

As our old play ground was ripped down, we had to, as a school, had to rebuild it. But we needed a plan for that, and the seniors were asked to make a new design for it. Most of us made impossible ones. Others, however made good ones. Mine was a impossible one. I made a screencastifying of it.  We used 3-D shapes and creativity to make the playground.

Taekwondo

In class for the last four weeks on Thursdays day we have been going to taekwondo and learning how to punch and  kick. We are not allowed to use it out of the classroom and if we do we miss the whole next lesson of taekwondo and we have to sit and watch everyone else. Yesterday we learnt how to kick and had a competition about who could kick the highest. Caitlin won at round 11 (each round puts the target a little bit higher and a little bit harder to reach). Here are some photos.
this is me, kicking the pad and missing, on the first try

this is the whole class, kicking for practice

pick a path

Beware!!! this is a sad story and has no happy endings!!!! If you don't think you can take it, DO NOT READ IT!!! IT'S  BAD IDEA ALTOGETHER !!!

This is a pick-a-path story about when your cat was killed by your best friend. It is simple to use. All you have to do is click on the link that you want to go to and you will be taken to the appropriate slide for you. This was fun to make because we could pick any theme we wanted and go freestyle with it. It was also kind of hard because we kept on linking the wrong things to the wrong places and getting frustrated with it.

Math

This is what we started with -  toothpicks, a ball of Plasticine and a sheet of white paper.

This is it after I got desperate and rebuilt it in a new easier shape.

this is my creation after it fell apart.

I think it was hard and frustrating because it kept on falling apart because it was very delicate and I had to be very gentle and careful with it. Also we did not have many ideas at the start. At first I thought about making a shape like a long stretched out dome tent (google it). Then, with that failing, I rebuilt it in a long tall pentagon shape ( I am too tall to fit in most tents, which is why I always need tall one) but it was todelicate to work with  so I, in  a rush because we needed something at the end of the lesson and all I had was a pile of sticks and Plasticine, I made a new one as fast as I could, this is the second photo you see on this post and was easy, strong and fast to make. I think it was fun because there wasn't much to remember and we could go freestyle. My overall refection is that is was very hard to make because it was too delicate .

P.S. Sorry about the lack of pictures, I didn't think about them until it was too late.

skateboarding

This term we started skateboarding with Aden and Martin. It was lots of fun because we had some pretty fantastic falls and some just as good wins. The best part was the ramps. Martin bet on me doing it and now owes me $8,700 (he did't give me it). Once it was a very windy day and it took about ten minutes to get across the court and five seconds for the other side. Here are some photos

We also did an acrostic poem.
Skateboarding

Safe
Killer skateboard hates me
A lot of fun
To many falls
Evil skateboard hates me
Baaaad
On a board for the longest half an hour of my life
A lot of fun
Really scary
Definitely a killer evil skateboard that hates me
I fell off five times
Never going back
Gonna go back

Now I hope I can get into a holiday program or something like that. I will now get more into skateboarding but we don't have one so it would be good to get one

the new space

A few days after we first moved into the new space we were ask to do a thinking hats piece of work. From this work I think I finally started to realize how much work the teachers and Mrs Peterson put into the building of this new space for us to learn in. In the opening ceremony the Kapa Haka group preformed a song and than Micheal Wood cut the ribbon and parents went in then came the juniors then the middle school then the kids that would be learning in the area, which were the senior school.

If you want to find out what the National Curriculum is click here
here are some photos of the inside and the out side

Caesar the ANZAC dog

This term we read a book as a class called Caesar the ANZAC Dog about an ANZAC dog called Caesar that saved hundreds of lives and was killed in action by being shot in the chest with the hands of the solider he had been saving still around his neck.

the tooth

Last term we read a book in class called The Tooth by Des Hunt about a boy who has a fight with the school bully who follows him to the place where he will later find dinosaur bones. The book goes deep into the personal life of the boy, whose name is Timothy Thomas and his best friend, whose name is Mits. We then made a slide show about the book. I really liked the book because it didn't have long words that I couldn't understand.

Feel free to look at the slide show

my trench diary

We were ask to do a trench diary in remembrance of ANZAC day ( Aussie New Zealand Army Corps) about what we thought a day in the life of a soldier would be like. This is what I made.

I can see rats, lots of them, some as big as cats and all feeding on old Sam's body with our mascot, a cat called Tobie trying and failing to fight them of his master’s body. It’s a sickening sight and Sam's brother just threw up but he can’t help it and I think i’m about to follow in both of their footsteps.

I can hear bombs and bullets which makes me feel sick because I know I will die soon. I Can also hear Sam's brother being sick which is not very nice at all. Through the rest of the choir I can hear old and faithful Tobie fighting off the rats.

I have the taste of blood in my mouth and I don't know if it’s mine. I can also taste rust and a lot of bad food that, if I was at home I would never have eaten.

I  can smell gunpowder in the air and a little bit of mustard gas which I know will kill me soon. I can also smell rats and the rotten food they feed us in Sam's brothers puke.

ANZAC Day

We were asked to do a piece of writing on what we did on ANZAC day and this is what I wrote.

On ANZAC Day (25th of April) I went to my cousin's house (his name is Kasiam, I think that’s how it should be spelt) in Hillsborough. We built an advanced hut including an unused toilet (we aren't that gross, even if we did dig a hole and put a tyre on top), three beds that we could lie on (made out of two tyres with a boogie board on top, but they did work and are comfortable), a roof that could hold off the rain for up to a hour (it was made out of boogie boards on sticks), a nearly flat floor that didn't drive holes into your feet, (the reason we didn’t wear shoes was that we wanted to make the jungle idea stay alive, and wearing shoes would demolish it) and sticks that wouldn’t break in the face of danger!

It took five hours to build and by the end we were exhausted and out of breath, but still ready to go if the time called for it ( which it didn’t, but could have easily). We didn’t really do it for any reason apart from boredom, but in the end we were proud of what we had managed to make in the space of five long hours.           By Saskia

as you may have noticed i did not go to a service on ANZAC day

Cyber smart-who's looking?

In cybersmart we have been learning about digital foot prints and how to get rid of them. Also we have been learning about who would look at our work. This post is to show what we have learnt so far.

I know a lot of people that could come on to this blog but these came to my mind first

Welcome to my very own blog for learning. I look forward to sharing my learning with teachers, my school, my family and friends anywhere.
